Refugease Faces Closure
βRefugease is in a financial crisis due to rising costs and donor fatigue. Refugease is a Tunbridge Wells-based charity that provides aid to conflict zones.
Founded in 2015, it needs Β£48,000 to continue operations in Syria, Ukraine, and Gaza. The charity's vintage shop income has fallen. Founder, Valentina Osbourn warns of potential closure within four months. So far, it has raised Β£2,500.
Creative Tunbridge Wells Launched
Creative Tunbridge Wells (CTW) has launched its website and social media platforms, funded by Arts Council England. CTW supports the local creative community by offering networking events, skills workshops, and funding assistance. Chair Dawn Badland and local leaders highlight CTW's role in fostering partnerships and driving economic growth in the creative sector.
Pig & Porter Wins Gold
Tunbridge Wells' Pig & Porter brewery won Gold for their "Lucky Day" KEIPA at the Taste of Kent Awards. The judges praised the beer for its tropical notes and refreshing taste. Robin Wright (Founder) and Chris Spurdens (Head Brewer) celebrated the achievement. They highlighted their commitment to quality, sustainability and innovation. The brewery plans to expand with a Tap Room and event space.
Trampoline Park Gets Approval
Tunbridge Wells councillors approved AirHop's plan to open a trampoline park. The park will be at North Farm Road and the Council expects it to create 50 to 60 jobs.
The park, catering to all ages, will occupy a former printing factory. Councillors praised the plan for its contribution to leisure activities. The decision was unanimous.
Sports Hub Plan Faces Opposition
βHawkenbury Allotment Holders' Association are opposing plans for a sports and football centre. The Council are planning to base the hub at Hawkenbury Recreation Ground. The project could impact a 130-year-old allotment due to road widening.
The Council's Local Plan includes a flexible stadium for Tunbridge Wells Football Club. Concerns are that the greater parking spaces may affect the allotment's ancient hedge. The Council is confident that they can provide the parking without causing this harm. They may use compulsory purchase powers if needed.
Aldi Eyes Tunbridge Wells Expansion
βAldi is considering Tunbridge Wells for new store locations as part of its expansion. The supermarket chain seeks sites of at least 20,000 sq. ft. with 100 parking spaces. This follows public input revealing high demand for more stores in these areas.
