THE BRIEF

🚔Police Swarm: A major armed police presence in Tunbridge Wells on Sunday morning turned out to be a false alarm. Officers, supported by drones and a helicopter, swarmed locations including High Brooms station, Camden Road and Showfields. The were following reports of a man acting suspiciously. The original 999 call has now been confirmed as unfounded, bringing the tense scenes to a close without incident. Read more from Millie Bowles here.

🧵Repair Cafe Spin-Off: A free Repair Academy for 12 to 14-year-olds is launching in Tunbridge Wells. It will teach teens how to sew, fix clothes, and even repair games consoles. The new initiative from the Tunbridge Wells Repair Café kicks off on 28th June at Trinity Theatre. There will be sessions in textile and electrical repair. No experience needed - just bring a t-shirt if you're joining the textile group. It's hands-on, planet-friendly, and backed by the council’s sustainability team. Read more from Mary Harris here.

🏏Top Of The League: Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club have surged to the top of the Kent Cricket League’s Premier Division after a dominant 94-run win over Bexley. Will Stickler fell just short of a century with 97, backed by 87 from Ollie Morgan. Matt Luksich sealed the result with a five-wicket haul. Meanwhile, Hayes slipped down the table after a heavy loss to Minster, and Bromley clinched a dramatic two-wicket victory over Sandwich in a high-scoring thriller. Read Peter Burrowes' full round-up here.

🚨Watch Police Swoop: Two men in their 30s were arrested after a suspected break-in at a car dealership on Longfield Road, just after 10pm last Tuesday. Police seized a vehicle believed linked to the suspects, which contained suspected stolen car batteries. A later search of a Tonbridge property uncovered further suspicious items. The investigation is ongoing. Watch the video and read more from Annette Belcher here.

🛍️RVP Progress: Tunbridge Wells Borough Council has unveiled plans to regenerate the Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre. It plans to submit proposals for planning permission by July 2026. Following its 2023 acquisition of the site, the council is now recruiting a design and planning team to bring forward a bold vision for Ely Court, Palm Court, and Market Square. Plans include a revitalised food court, a new entrance, and up to 100 homes. This is part of a major town centre rethink targeting the centre’s 28% vacancy rate. Read more from Merlin Fulcher here.
