No Asylum Seekers in Tunbridge Wells Hotels
New figures show the Government is housing no asylum seekers in hotels in Tunbridge Wells as of June. This is consistent with the previous year. In the UK, the number of asylum seekers in hotels has dropped by 41%. Although c.30,000 remain in such accommodation.
Refugee charities argue that hotels are unsuitable, leaving vulnerable people isolated and at risk of far-right attacks. The national asylum backlog has decreased by 32% over the past year, with 118,900 people still awaiting decisions. There are ongoing calls to allow asylum seekers to work while their applications are processed.
