It’s a mixed week in Tunbridge Wells. Residents are once again dealing with water disruption after burst mains linked to cold weather, raising fresh questions for South East Water, while six weeks of roadworks on the A26 threaten more commuter frustration.
On the brighter side, there are reasons to get out and enjoy the town: Rob Beckett brings his sell-out show Giraffe to the Assembly Hall later this month, and the cosy Irish & Trad Sessions return to The Sussex Arms for a free afternoon of live music and pints.

SPONSORED BY TEDX ROYAL TUNBRIDGE WELLS
Momentum is building in Tunbridge Wells.
On Sunday 8th March 2026, TEDxRoyal Tunbridge Wells returns to the Assembly Hall Theatre with a powerful day of live ideas, stories and conversations designed to stay with you long after the curtain falls.
This year’s theme, Momentum, explores what happens after the first step - how ideas grow, confidence builds, and meaningful change accelerates. You’ll hear from inspiring local speakers including Monica Dragnescu, unpacking the emotional forces behind our relationship with money, and Sean Turner, sharing why play may be the missing ingredient in our thinking, work and relationships.
Across the day, ten original talks will span finance, creativity, education, community and personal growth - thoughtful, human, and rooted in the world we actually live in.
If you value ideas that challenge assumptions, spark reflection, and move you forward, this is a day worth reserving in your diary.
🎟️ Tickets are on sale now. Join us for a day of ideas worth sharing - and take the next step with momentum.

THE BRIEF
🫗 What Water: Residents are facing fresh water disruption, only a month after a two-week outage left thousands without safe supplies. South East Water says cold weather has triggered multiple burst mains, cutting off 6,500 homes and leaving many others with intermittent water. Tankers and bottled water stations are back, but MPs and regulators are again questioning long-term underinvestment and leadership failures. Supplies may remain unstable for days. Read more here.
🧶 Yarnival: A new one-day festival is stitching its way into Tunbridge Wells this spring. Yarnival brings together knitters, crocheters, weavers and makers for a packed day of markets, talks and hands-on workshops. More than 20 exhibitors will be selling yarn and handmade goods, with rare access to historic local crafts from the Amelia Scott collection adding a heritage twist. Tickets are limited and the focus is firmly on community and creativity. Read more here.
🚦 Traffic Delays: Six weeks of roadworks are about to hit a key commuter route in Tunbridge Wells, with gas mains being replaced along the busy A26 London Road. Work starts on 12th January and will involve road closures, temporary traffic lights and diversions near Southborough, a stretch already notorious for school-run congestion. Engineers say the upgrade is essential, but drivers should brace for delays during peak hours. Read more here.
🚆 Discount Train Tickets: Southeastern has joined the Great British Rail Sale, releasing more than one million discounted tickets across its network. Fares are reduced by up to 50% on selected advance tickets, valid for travel between 13th January and 25th March. Popular routes across Kent and into London are included, with deals aimed at commuters, day trippers and half-term travellers. The sale is only open for a week and tickets are limited. Read more here.
❄️ Cold Snaps: A burst of winter cold brought snow, ice and unexpectedly beautiful scenes across Kent. From countryside paths to coastal light, locals shared the best moments from the freeze. See the photos here.
